There are around thirty different steps going from a sheet of paper to a book. Folding the sheets into signatures, preparing the signatures for stitching with an awl and attaching the bookmarks are few of them.
Process
The materials are handpicked for their tactile, visual and functional qualities. They are found and searched for in many different places, the favorite ones are what others have left behind. Each book becomes one of a kind when combining making them by hand and using handpicked material. Any left-overs from the production is used for packing the books, making the most of the material. BLANKBOOK is designed with minimal material to attain the maximum writing experience and functionality.
Besides the hands, other tools that are used is the awl to pierce the paper in preparation for the stitching and the bonefolder to fold the signatures. Various heavy things are used to add pressure to the folded paper to be comfortable in its new position as a book.
